The shop-floor / SAP gap

Most floor systems don't really talk to SAP.

Shop-floor and machine-data systems promise real-time production, but getting that data into SAP usually means a custom integration project: middleware to build, map, and maintain, and a bill that grows every time SAP or the floor system changes. Many plants give up and keep re-keying confirmations by hand.

The problem with paper on the floor

The shop floor still runs on paper. SAP finds out later.

On most floors, operators record what they did: hours worked, good and scrap quantities, operations completed, on paper tickets and travelers. Those slips get collected, batched, and typed into SAP by an admin at the end of a shift or the next morning. Until then, SAP is out of date: production orders look unconfirmed, WIP is wrong, capacity and scheduling run on stale numbers, and payroll or costing waits on a keypunch backlog. Artificio removes the keypunch step entirely. The paper still works for operators, but it flows into SAP PP as confirmations automatically.

Do we have to build an interface to SAP?
No: that's the core difference. The app posts to SAP PP through standard interfaces (OData order-confirmation services and BAPI), so there's no custom middleware to build or maintain. Native SAP posting is the product, not an add-on integration you fund separately.
How is this different from an MES?
A full MES is a large system that typically still needs a custom SAP interface built and maintained. Artificio gives you the real-time operator capture and supervisor visibility that matter most, and posts natively into SAP PP: lighter, faster to deploy, and without the integration project. If you need deep machine-level MES functions, Artificio can complement rather than replace them.
How does actual costing work?
Operators clock real time against the order's operations, and Artificio posts that actual activity time to SAP against the order's activity types. Controlling then sees real labor and machine cost per order as production happens, instead of relying on planned/standard times and truing up at month-end.
What can the supervisor dashboard actually do?
It shows every running order's live progress against plan, and flags orders trending late early enough to act: reassign an operator, expedite, or escalate before the due date slips. Because the data is live from the operator app, it's real status, not a stale report.
Can operators raise quality issues?
Yes. From the same screen, an operator can log a defect with reason codes and a photo, which raises a SAP QM quality notification on the spot, so quality problems are captured at the moment they happen, not reconstructed later.
Does it run on our existing SAP and hardware?
Yes. It runs on SAP ECC and S/4HANA with no ABAP, and the operator app runs on ordinary tablets, shared terminals, or phones. No specialized floor hardware to buy or install.
What if we're not ready to change how operators work?
Then start with paper capture instead. Artificio can read your existing time tickets and confirmation slips and post the same SAP PP confirmations, and you can move to the digital app later. Same SAP result, two ways in.
