SAP can plan the order perfectly and still be hours behind the physical floor.
Production orders, operations and planned dates can live in SAP, but execution happens at machines and work centers. When operators report progress through paper, spreadsheets, disconnected terminals or delayed administrative entry, SAP becomes a retrospective record rather than a live representation of production.
That delay affects more than production reporting. Supervisors may learn about late operations after the recovery window has narrowed. Planners work from stale order status. Controlling waits for production activity to reach the order before actual cost reflects what is happening on the floor.
The manufacturer's objective was not to replace SAP PP. It was to create a simple execution experience for operators while keeping SAP as the system of record for production orders, confirmations and cost-relevant activity.

Before Artificio
The missing layer was between SAP planning and physical execution.
SAP PP already contained the production structure. What the floor needed was an operator-facing execution layer that could turn assigned production work into timely, governed SAP transactions without requiring operators to navigate a complex ERP experience.
Traditional alternatives can create another problem: a custom shop-floor application plus a custom SAP interface that IT must design, deploy, monitor and change whenever the execution process evolves.

1. Work-center operator app
Tablets at the work centers give operators a focused interface for the work relevant to them. The experience can present assigned orders and operations without requiring the operator to navigate the full SAP transaction landscape.
2. Clock-on execution event
When an operator begins assigned work, the clock-on event connects the person/work center to the intended production order and operation. The workflow validates the production context before treating the activity as a valid execution event.
3. Capture production activity
During or at completion of work, the configured process can capture time, yield, scrap, status or other production-confirmation information required by the customer's operating model.
4. Real-time SAP PP confirmation
Eligible execution events are converted into the appropriate SAP PP confirmation through the approved integration path. SAP responses return to the workflow so the operator/supervisor layer can distinguish successful confirmations from exceptions.
5. Live execution dashboard
Supervisors see the production picture built from active and completed work: which orders are running, which operations have progressed, and which orders appear late or at risk based on the configured plan and execution signals.

Supervisor execution control
See late work while there is still time to change the outcome.
The supervisor dashboard turns operator events and SAP production context into an execution view. Rather than waiting for a shift-end report, supervisors can monitor what is running and what is falling behind during the shift.
Configured indicators can highlight orders or operations whose execution state is inconsistent with the plan, for example work that has not started as expected, activity running beyond an expected window, or an order whose remaining work puts the target date at risk.
Artificio does not need to replace the planning logic in SAP. Its role is to make execution signals visible quickly enough for supervisors to act on them.
Actual production cost
As execution reaches SAP, actual order cost stops waiting for yesterday's floor data.
Production confirmations can carry or trigger cost-relevant activity depending on the customer's SAP configuration. When operator time and production activity reach SAP in real time, controlling gets a more current basis for viewing actual cost against the production order.
This allows planned-versus-actual conversations to happen closer to the production event. A supervisor or controller does not need to wait for delayed confirmation entry simply to know that additional time or activity has been consumed.
SAP PP integration
No separate custom middleware layer for the operator workflow.
The customer did not build a new point-to-point SAP middleware interface solely to connect the tablet application to production confirmations. Artificio provides the workflow and integration layer and communicates through the SAP connectivity approved for the customer's landscape.
This is a more precise claim than saying "no SAP integration." Integration still exists and must be configured, secured and governed. The advantage is that the customer does not have to create and maintain a separate bespoke middleware application for this shop-floor use case.
The exact interface depends on SAP version, deployment model, enabled APIs/BAPIs, middleware standards, security and the customer's PP confirmation design.

The architecture keeps SAP authoritative for production master and transactional data while Artificio provides the work-center experience and orchestration around it. This avoids duplicating core ERP logic in the operator application.
