SAP AI Agent · Basis · SM37 · ST22 Configurable

Analyze SAP job failures and short dumps with governed AI agents.

Watch background jobs and short dumps around the clock. The agent explains what failed and why, links each dump to the job or user behind it, and proposes restarts only where a job is safe to repeat, after approval.

Why it matters

Overnight job failures become morning business problems.

Billing, MRP, interface and closing jobs fail at night. By the time someone reads the dump, the business is already waiting, and restarting the wrong job can do more harm than good.

  • Late discovery

    Found when users complain

Nobody watches the job log at 2 a.m., so failed jobs surface when invoices, plans or reports are missing.Late billing → Missed cutoffs → Delayed close
  • Cryptic dumps

    Dumps that take an expert

Reading a short dump and linking it to the job and data behind it takes time few people have.Slow fixes → Escalations → Repeat failures
  • Unsafe restarts

    Restart and hope

Restarting a job that partly ran can create duplicates or skip records.Duplicates → Reversals → Data cleanup

How it works

Read. Validate. Decide. Act.

The same four steps as every Artificio agent. The agent does the research and the paperwork; your teams make the decisions.

  1. 01 · Read

    Watch jobs and dumps

Cancelled, delayed and long-running jobs, plus new short dumps.

    • Business impact by job, such as billing or MRP
    • Dumps linked to the job step or user
  2. 02 · Validate

    Explain the failure

Reads the job log, the dump and recent changes.

    • Cause stated in plain language
    • Similar failures in the job's history compared
  3. 03 · Decide

    Assess the restart

Checks whether the job is safe to repeat.

    • Output already created by the failed run checked
    • Restart proposed only where it's safe
  4. 04 · Act

    Restart and verify

Restarts after approval and checks the result.

    • Job completion and output verified
    • Repeat failures flagged for a permanent fix

Worked example

A cancelled billing job, from dump to safe restart.

The nightly billing job cancels with a memory dump. Here is what the agent finds before the billing team starts work.

The variant was changed on 30 Oct and lost its billing date range, so the job selected every open delivery and ran out of memory.

  • If a job isn't safe to repeat

    Said plainly

When a job partly ran, the agent shows what it already created and leaves the recovery decision to the owner.
  • If the cause is in custom code

    Routed to development

Dumps in custom programs go to the development team with the dump, the data and the steps to reproduce.
  • If the restart fails

    Stopped and reported

The agent stops after a failed restart and reports what changed, instead of retrying.

Owners, rules and tolerances are configured to your organization and agreed for each deployment.

Controlled autonomy

Start with human oversight. Automate only when ready.

The agent proves itself on your real work before it writes anything to SAP. The platform measures how often your people agree with it, so you decide when to give it more room, case type by case type.

  1. Step 1Where every agent starts

    Shadow mode

The agent proposes every action but writes nothing to SAP. Your people decide, and each answer counts toward the agreement rate.

  2. Step 2

    Approve, then act

The required owners approve. The agent acts in SAP only when the last approval lands.

  3. Step 3

    Act by approved rule

For case types you explicitly configure and approve, such as restarting a job that failed on a lock when the failed run created nothing, the agent acts on its own and reports back.

  • Approval rules are enforced by the platform, whatever the agent's instructions say
  • No job is restarted unless it is safe to repeat
  • SAP credentials never reach the agent or its instructions
  • Every value carries its source; approved values are locked

Governed agent runtime

Shared platform controls across every Artificio agent.

What makes this agent different is its configuration: its instructions, the tools it may use and the policies it works under. Reviewers, approvals, versions and audit work the same way for every agent you add.

What we measure

Results you can see in your own numbers.

Every pilot tracks the same four measures from day one, so the business case comes from your data, not ours.

  • Time to detect

From failure to an alert with a diagnosis.
  • Time to recover

From failure to job completed and verified.
  • Unsafe restarts avoided

Restarts stopped because a job had partly run.
  • Repeat failures

Recurring causes, tracked until fixed for good.

For SAP teams

Integrates with SAP ECC and S/4HANA through standard interfaces.

The agent reads and writes data through supported SAP interfaces, without modifying standard SAP objects and without replacing your existing governance.

Reads from SAP

Background jobsStatus, logs, steps and history
Short dumpsRuntime errors with their context
System logRelated system messages
DocumentsOutput created by the failed run

Writes to SAP

RestartsApproved restarts through the background processing interface
VariantsChanged by the job owner, with approval
AlertsDiagnoses sent to the owning team
ResponsesEvery SAP response recorded on the case

ScopeThe exact interfaces, objects and fields in scope are confirmed for your SAP release and deployment during technical discovery. S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is reviewed case by case, and some landscapes may need additional configuration.

Pilot approach

Start with your business-critical jobs.

A focused pilot in your QA or sandbox system proves the agent on your own data before anything reaches production.

  1. Phase 1

    Connect

Review SAP edition, interfaces, authorizations and representative data.

  2. Phase 2

    Configure

Agree the jobs in scope, the owners, restart rules and approvals.

  3. Phase 3

    Pilot

Watch real jobs in shadow mode: the agent diagnoses, Basis restarts.

  4. Phase 4

    Expand

Review the four measures, then add jobs and approved automatic restarts.

Frequently asked questions

Questions SAP teams ask.

Which jobs does it watch?
Any background jobs you choose, typically business-critical ones such as billing, MRP, interfaces and closing. The jobs in scope are agreed for each deployment.
How does it decide a restart is safe?
It checks what the failed run already created, such as documents or postings, and the job's history. If the job partly ran, it shows what was created and leaves the decision to the owner.
Does it restart jobs automatically?
Not by default. Restarts need approval. You can allow automatic restarts for specific jobs and errors, such as lock conflicts, when nothing was created.
Can it analyze dumps that aren't from jobs?
Yes. Short dumps from users are linked to the transaction and user, and routed to the right team with the context.
Does it work with our monitoring tools?
Yes. It can work alongside SAP Solution Manager, Focused Run or other monitoring. They raise the alert; the agent investigates and proposes the fix.
Is the Job Failure & Dump Analysis Agent available today?
It is configured on request on the same governed platform as Artificio's available agents. We start by scoping your process and systems, then configure and test the agent in a pilot in your SAP QA or sandbox system before anything reaches production.
Does the Job Failure & Dump Analysis Agent write to SAP without approval?
Not by default. Every agent starts in shadow mode, where nothing is written to SAP. After that, the required owners approve before the agent acts. Automatic action is only possible for cases you explicitly configure and approve.
Which SAP versions are supported?
SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA. The exact interfaces and scope are confirmed for your release and deployment during technical discovery; S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is reviewed case by case.

Security & compliance
